Fascinated by the rudiments of a marching band at the age of 8, Willy Renner decided to learn drumming. After only one year, playing on the "snare drum" was no longer enough for him and it had to be a drum set! At the youth music school in St. Georgen he learned to play the drums with different teachers. During the school years came the first school and music school bands and inspired by a teacher, first touches with jazz music.

From 1987 to 1989 he perfected his drumming while studying at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern, with Billy Brooks. He draws his musical experience from working with numerous bands of different styles, at countless live concerts as well as radio and TV productions. His musical background, combined with his solid training by his teacher Billy Brooks, who is known to be more committed to modern jazz, make Willy Renner a versatile, experienced and reliable accompanist.

Although he shines as a soloist with brilliant technique, he is one of the rare drummers who can hold back and secure a rich groove for the band. Willy Renner is an honorary citizen of the city of New Orleans. In addition to his performances, concerts and workshops, he has been teaching percussion at the Jugendmusikschule St. Georgen - Furtwangen since 1990.
